Olmec Were-Jaguar
This large statue head is of the Olmec Were-Jaguar, a half-man half-jaguar being who was one of the 7 Olmec Spirits or deities. He has a snarling jaguar mouth and also an “X” across one eye, which could blindness, death, or power. This piece dates to the middle formative period, 1000BC to 400BC.
