Chicanna Structure X and Structure XI

Structure XI Spiral

A stucco spiral from Structure XI at Chicanna. Some believe that the spiral represents a concept of centrality, others believe it to represent the concept of cyclical progression, others believe it represented the galaxy, but it most likely derives from the symbolism of the conch or spondylus shell – a symbol of war.
