Roman Head found at Calixtlahuaca

This Romanesque figurine head was found during José Garcia-Payón’s excavations at Calixtlahuaca in the 1930’s, buried beneath three sealed amongst the grave goods. The head appears to be an authentic piece dating from the 2nd century, but quite how it got to Caxtlahuaca, 40 km northeast of Mexico City, remains a mystery (read more…)
