Quiriguá: The Acropolis

Motif on Structure 1B-1

This unusual motif is found on the left hand side of the stairs leading up from the acropolis plaza to building 1B-1. It is uncertain what the motif is of, but it looks like an toad-like head with human arms. It may have been a coat-of-arms for one of the rulers of Quirigua.
