This incredible monument is a towering 10.6 metres tall at weighs over 65 tons. This makes it the largest free-standing monolith in the New World and the largest stone ever quarried by the Maya, thus proving the power of the mighty Cauac Sky who had it erected in 771AD to commemorate his incredible 56 year rule (he went on to rule for another 4 years) – read more in the article The Stelae of Quirigua.
