Statue of Pakal
This is a typical effigy of the Mayan king K’inich Janaab’ Pakal who ruled Palenque for 80 years from the late 7th century onward. His upsprouting unkempt hair represent the leaves, ears and silks of maize (corn) and symbolise Pacal’s affiliation or embodiment of the Maize God.
