Temple of Quetzalcoatl
This is the view of the western face of the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, which is also known as the Temple of Ehecatl. Quetzalcoatl is a feathered serpent God, one of the highest ranking Mesoamerican God’s in the Toluca Valley, and with the temple shaped like a coiled serpent it was natural to believe the temple was dedicated to him. However, during Payon’s excavations in the 1930’s, a statue was found buried within the temple vicinity which is thought to be of Ehecatl, the God of Wind, who the Aztecs often created round shape temple structures for.
