El Palacio And Coastal Plain
The Great Palace (El Palacio) was built in the 7th century by Pakal the Great during Palenque’s heyday. However, this mighty city was defeated by Tonina just decades later, with the king, Pakal’s son, being taken hostage and held captive at Tonina and never to return.
