Little is known about the history of Altun Ha and little of this massive ancient city has been excavated. It is known that its history stretches a long way back, to 250BC, and that it had a population of around 10,000 people. Discoveries found amongst the ruins also indicate that this was a city of great importance amongst the early Maya.
